InfiniVAN and BBIX to Establish Joint Venture to Provide IX Services in the Philippines

BBIX, Inc. (“BBIX”), a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. that operates an Internet Exchange (IX) business, will establish a joint venture with InfiniVAN Inc. (“InfiniVAN”), a subsidiary of IPS, Inc. (“IPS”) that operates as a telecommunication company in the Philippines. The joint venture’s name will be BBIX Philippines Inc. (“BBIX Philippines”), and it will provide IX services in the Philippines from September 2023.

BBIX Philippines will provide carrier-neutral, affordable, and low-latency IX services in the Philippines, and will serve both domestic and international customers.

Comments on the Joint Venture Establishment:

Shigeki Nakahara, Director, InfiniVAN, Inc.

“The collaboration between BBIX and InfiniVAN to form BBIX Philippines marks a significant milestone in the improvement of Internet connectivity in the Philippines. BBIX brings with it IX technical expertise, global credibility and long-established peering arrangements with the largest content providers all over the world. InfiniVAN — with its own end-to-end fiber optic network infrastructure, extensive international submarine cable connectivity via its parent IPS, dominant wholesale internet bandwidth coverage of Internet service providers in the Philippines such as CATV operators, electric cooperatives and localized ISPs outside the Metro Manila area — complements BBIX’s strengths and track record. The venture is a synergistic blending of each entity’s respective mantras: “No Peering, No Internet” for BBIX and “Open Door” for IPS. It is envisioned that the project will significantly improve the quality of the Internet user experience in the country as well as foster the growth of non-telco ISPs of all sizes.”

Michikazu Fukuchi, Executive Vice President, Board Director and COO, BBIX, Inc.

“We are very pleased to establish this joint venture with InfiniVAN. The Internet market in the Philippines is growing rapidly and the digital economy is prospering. Moreover, we are expecting the additional landing of submarine cables, and the Philippines is expected to expand as a new international hub. By providing IX services in such a vibrant market, we will provide fast and stable Internet connectivity, and contribute to the Internet ecosystem in the Philippines as a whole. With BBIX’s prominent technical expertise and InfiniVAN’s firm local market presence, we are confident that BBIX Philippines will become the most significant IX service provider in the Philippines.”
